2008/09 SAPPA TOUR
2008 us open championship qualifier

July saw SAPPA's now annual US Open Qualifier. A total of 42 players turned up at The Q Club in Glasgow to try to win an expenses paid trip to play in one of pool's most prestegious tournaments - the 2008 US Open 9 Ball Championships in Chesapeake, Virginia, USA. With a prize of this magnatude available, the play was expected to be of a very high standard and we were not let down. Two of the major upsets of the event were caused by one man, Arbroath's Greg Alexander, who eliminated both Jayson Shaw and Michael Valentine in back-to-back matches.

Greg's run, however, was to come to an end at the hands of the eventual winner, Phil Burford, with a decisive 9-3 scoreline. Phil went on to defeat Mark Boyle by 9 racks to 6 before a dramatic 10-7 victory over professional snooker player, Fraser Patrick.
