2007/08 SAPPA TOUR
2007 US Open Qualifier

Riley's, Ledard Road, Glasgow
1st July 2007

SAPPA's annual qualifying tournament to send a player to the US Open 9-Ball Championships in Chesapeake, Virginia, USA took place on 1st July at Riley's, Ledard Road in Glasgow. A total of 61 players turned up all with the intention of winning one of the biggest prizes on offer in American Pool in Scotland.

This year's tournament saw both Pat Holtz and Michael Valentine missing the tournament due to family holidays. This alone made predicting a winner very difficult as players came from all over Scotland, along with a few from England and one from Ireland. In the end, it was the Irishman, and a good friend of SAPPA's, Paddy Mc Laughlin - "The Ginger Magician" - who took the top prize with a dramatic 9-8 win over Englishman Adam Smith. Smith and Mc Laughlin eliminated the final Scottish hopes - Stevie Capaldi and Greg Alexander - in the Semi Finals.

A note of thanks should go to the staff at Riley's, Ledard Road, Glasgow - espcially the Manager, Carol - for allowing us to stay late so we could finish the event off in one session.
