2007 SAPPA Scotch Doubles Championships
Riley's, Kirkintilloch
17 June 2007
Pat Holtz and Michael Valentine went undefeated through a field of 44 pairs to win the first SAPPA Scotch Doubles Championships held recently in Riley's, Kirkintilloch. The win brought with it £600 in prize money as well as being the Scottish representatives for the upcoming World Cup of Pool, to be held in Holland in September.
In what was a very entertaining day of pool for both players and spectators, it was interesting to see how players so used to playing for themselves would get on when they had somebody else to consider when playing their shots. At the end of the day, however, it was the pairing consisting of the top 2 ranked players in Scotland that shone through. Pat and Michael’s win in the final over 8-Ball specialists Ian McMillan and Kevin Irving was by no means easy, but in the end it was their experience as a Scotch Doubles pairing that got them over the finishing line to take the top prize.
