SAPPA Tour Event 1
2007 New Coin Automatics 9-Ball Classic
Reardon's Southside, Glasgow
The 2007/08 SAPPA Tour started in April when 67 players turned up for the 2007 New Coin Automatics 9-Ball Classic, held at Reardon's Southside in Shawlands, Glasgow. In a day of top quality pool, as well as several surprise results, it was Michael Valentine who ended the day taking the £400 first prize with a brilliant undefeated run through the tournament chart culminating in a brilliant 9 racks to 4 victory over Clark Smith.
One of the surprises of the tournament was the self-confessed lackluster performance by Pat Holtz. He was put over to the Losers' Bracket by Ian Mackintosh by 6 racks to 4 then eliminated from the tournament itself in the final qualifying round by Clark Smith who himself had been put to the Losers' side by a resurgent John Ward. This tournament also saw the arrival of a group of players from Poland, via Fraserborough, who, although they did not manage to make it past the Double Elimination phase of the tournament, are sure to make an impact on SAPPA tournaments in the future.
