2006/07 SAPPA TOUR
SAPPA Tour Event 10

Styx, Kirkcaldy
4 March 2007

Michael Valentine cemented his position at the top of the Scottish American Pool Players Association rankings with an emphatic 9 racks to 2 victory over Glasgow's Darren Murray in the final Tour Event of the 2006/07 season in Styx, Kirkcaldy.

The weekend was due to start on the Friday evening with the annual Scots-Irish Cup match, but this had to be cancelled due unforseen circumstances stopping the Irish team from travelling to Kirkcaldy. It is hoped that the match will be re-arranged in the coming months. As it was, even without the Irish team playing in the Sunday event, there was still a very healthy turnout of 61 players all willing to pit their skill and wits against one another for the £400 first prize.

Both Valentine and Murray managed to reach the final without losing a single match en-route. Murray's route from the last 16 was fraught with dangerous players and scorelines, sqeezing past Frank Hughes 7 rakcs to 6 followed by a convincing 7-3 win over local player Dale Smith in the Quarter Finals, who was playing in his first SAPPA event, and reaching the final with an emphatic 8 racks to 3 win over Stevie Capaldi. Valentine's route wasn't much easier beating Edinburgh's Johnny "Hold 'Em" Holden by 7 racks to 5, then Falkirk's Ian Mitchell by the same scoreline in the Quarter Finals and reaching the final with an 8-4 victory over Pat Holtz. It should be mentioned that after Holtz reliquished control of the table being 4-2 up, he was only allowed one shot at the table in the remaining racks. Valentine's clear-up clinic was a warning of what was to come in the final.

Michael continued where he left off in the final with a devastating display against Darren. Darren had a couple of chances in the early racks, but was not able to capitalise on them, allowing Michael to pull away to a commanding lead, one which turned out to be too large to overcome. In the end, Valentine won the £400 first prize 9-2 with Murray having to settle for the second prize of £200.
