2006/07 SAPPA TOUR
SAPPA Tour Event 8

Riley's, Stirling
22 January 2006

Scottish Championship runner-up Scott Gillespie won his first SAPPA Tour Event with a resounding 9-1 victory over Pat Holtz. It wasn't plain sailing for Gillespie, however, as he had to come from the Losers' Bracket after a surprise 6-5 loss to Frank Hughes in the second round but once in the Losers' Bracket, Scott wasted no time in despatching his 3 opponents with a total rack score of 15 racks to 1.

The last 16 draw saw Scott paired up against a resurgent Stuart Ellis and, after a tight battle Scott managed to edge through by 7 racks to 6. After demolishing Davy Jack 7 racks to 0, Gillespie then faced Clark Smith and it was another tight battle going to the last rack with Scott squeezing through by 8 racks to 7.

Holtz, on the other hand, went undefeated to qualify for the last 16 and was relatively untroubled in his wins over Edinburgh's Johnny Holden (7-3) in the last 16, Glasgow's Scott Ross in the Quarter Finals (7-4) before beating Scottish number 1 Michael Valentine 8-0 in the Semi Final.

In the final, however, it was Holtz's turn to sit and watch as Gillespie got a little revenge for his loss in last year's Scottish Championship final with a very lop-sided 9 racks to 1 victory and taking the £400 first prize.
