2006/07 SAPPA TOUR
SAPPA Tour Event 7

Riley's, Kirkintilloch
17 December 2006

Michael Valentine added yet another SAPPA Tour Event to his already impressive list of tournament wins with an emphatic 9 racks to 4 win over Scottish pool's wonder kid Jayson Shaw. However, Valentine's 5 tour win (not counting his participation in the winning 5-Man Team earlier in the season) was not plain sailing as he had to recover from a 6-5 loss to Scott Gillespie in the final round of the Winners' Bracket of the Double Elimination phase.

Valentine's reward for qualifying through the Losers' Bracket was a highly anticipated clash with reigning Scottish Champion Pat Holtz. Holtz, who has also won 5 tournaments this season, including the World Championship qualifier and the Scottish Championships, had qualified unbeaten from the Double Elimination phase, but it was Valentine who came out victorious with a commanding 7 racks to 2 win. This was followed with a revenge victory over Scott Gillespie (8 - 6), and an emphatic 8 racks to 3 win over Glasgow's Billy Edmond, who was appearing in his first SAPPA Tour Event semi-final.

Michael's opponent in the final, Jayson Shaw, also had to qualify from the Losers' Bracket after losing 6 - 3 to Pat Holtz in the final Winners' Bracket round. After sqeaking by Tony McCallum 5 - 4 to qualify for the last 16, he proceeded to blitz his way past Davy Jack, winner of the last Tour Event in Edinburgh, by 7 racks to 2. He followed this up with wins over Chic McCaig (8 - 4) and Clark Smith (8 - 3) to set up the final match with Valentine.

In the end, it was to be Valentine's night as he posted an impressive 9 - 4 victory over the young potting machine to strengthen his grip on the Scottish Number 1 ranking.
