2006/07 SAPPA TOUR
SAPPA Tour Event 6

8-Ball Sports Bar, Leith, Edinburgh
12 November 2006

Davy Jack won his first Scottish 9-Ball Tour Event in 4 years with an excellent 8 racks to 2 victory over new Scottish Champion Pat Holtz at the newest venue on the SAPPA tour, the Eight Ball Sports Bar in Leith, Edinburgh, housing 12 9-foot BCE tables for the 56 hopefuls that entered.

Holtz was given a hero’s welcome upon his arrival at the venue after stepping off the plane from this year’s World Pool Championships in Manila in The Philippines where he reached the last 16 of the tournament only losing 11-6 to defending World Champion Wu Cha Ching, a performance that put Scottish Pool firmly on the World map where it belongs and giving Pat an automatic qualification spot in next year’s tournament.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Scottish number one, Michael Valentine, was unable to attend the event, meaning that Davy Jack would be promoted to being number one seed for this event. Jack took full advantage of his promoted seeding as he defeated Martin Hughes and Ian MacIntosh to reach the knockout stage with ease.

In the last 16 he faced Stewarton’s Peter McLanachan, making his first-ever last 16 appearance, and Jack took no time in recording a 7-0 win to be the first player to reach the quarter finals. Falkirk’s David McPherson gave Jack a much closer game, but Davy came through that encounter by 7 racks to 4.

On to the semi-finals and up next was Edinburgh’s Chris Pringle. Davy played almost flawless pool and won by 7 racks to 1 to set up a final spot against Larkhall’s Pat Holtz.

Holtz, meanwhile, came back from slow starts to defeat Ross McInnes (7-5) in the last 8 and Scottish no 4 Stevie Capaldi (7-5) in the semi finals.

The final was of a very high standard with both players stringing balls together, but it was Jack who managed to pounce on the mistakes that Holtz made during the match allowing him to take his third title in a year following victories in the Belfast and Dublin Opens and giving Davy his third SAPPA ranking title.
