2006/07 SAPPA TOUR
Tour Event 2

Riley's, Stirling
12 February 2006

Pat Holtz came from the Losers' Bracket with a brilliant display to come out on top of the 57 players who had gathered at Riley's, Stirling to win the second stop on this year's Scottish American Pool Players' Association tour. His 9-3 win in the final over Edinburgh's Stevie Westwater was nothing short of a clinical display in how 9 Ball should be played and showed that he is now as clearly at home on the 9-foot American tables as he is on the 7-foot UK 8-Ball tables.

The event saw a Double Elimination format being played until 16 players remained - 8 from the Winners' Bracket and 8 from the Losers' - when a Single Elimination draw being made to be played until there was a winner. Both Holtz and Scottish number 1 Michael Valentine had to make use of their second chance in the Losers' Side when they were beaten in the final qualifying round on the Winners' side - Holtz going down 6-5 to local player Andy Morris and Valentine by 6 racks to 3 to Dundee's Jimmy Pollock. In fact, Pollock was to take care of Michael Valentine a second time in the Single Elimination Quarter Finals by a score of 7 racks to 5.

While all this was going on Edinburgh's Stevie Westwater, officially ranked 25th in Scotland, was quietly forging an undefeated path through the tournament chart with wins over Kevin Green, Craig Blackstock, Darren Murray and 2 wins over number 4 ranked Clark Smith - the first of these in the Double Elimination phase by 6 racks to 5, the second in the Quarter Finals with a more convincing 7-2 scoreline. An excellent 8-4 victory over Jimmy Pollock saw Westwater advance to the finals.

After being put into the Losers' Bracket, Pat Holtz started to make sure he used as little energy as possible in desposing of his opponents beating John Ward, Pete King, Jim O'Hare and Scott Gillespie - a UK 8-Ball player who plays 9-Ball so rarely that he had to use borrowed cues and yet still managed to reach the Semi Finals - by a combined total of 27 racks to 5.

The final was a masterclass from Pat as he proceeded to stop Stevie from getting a chance to get into the match with several brilliant break and run-outs to take the match by 9 racks to 3 and winning the £400 first prize. Stevie was awarded £200 for his efforts as runner-up.
