SAPPA 3 Person Team Championships

Last Sunday saw the 2005 edition of the 3 Person Team Event taking place at Pennies in Falkirk. A total of 21 teams turned up to try to take the title that Dundee's "Riley's Rockets" team of Tam Walinshaw, Davy Jack and Jimmy Pollock had won 12 months earlier. The group phase consisted of a total of 6 groups - 3 groups of 4 teams and 3 groups of 3 teams. The groups of 4 would see the top 3 go through, the groups of 3 would see the top 2 going through. The 16th and final place in the knockout phase would go to the 3rd placed team from the groups of 3 with the best record.Each match in the group phase consisted of a total of 9 racks.

This eliminated 5 of the 21 teams to leave us with 16 for the single elimination knock out phase. Each round would be a race to 8 racks. The group winners and the top 2 runners up from the groups of 4 would be drawn against the other 2nd and 3rd placed teams to create the last 16.

And so the 2005 3 Person Team Event came down to a final between "The Flyers" - George Fagan, Paddy Moir and Jayson Shaw - against The Rack Runners made up of Clark Smith, Neil Selkirk and Alastair Fleming. In the end, it came down to one rack between the teams with The Flyers winning and taking the £500 first prize.
